When I hear it running, I open the lid and it is always going through Startup Repair and eventually gets to the same message of "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically" and then I hit "Don't send" and "Finish" and the laptop shuts down completely. The only thing is that in the past week the laptop (which is still plugged into a power source) has turned on by itself with the lid closed (I did not know that was possible) about once a day. The laptop has been shut off and untouched since the problems occurred. I didn't start a topic at the time because I was too busy with some other things, but now I finally have. Since the problem was not related to an infection, we decided that I should start a new topic in this forum.

I have a Compaq laptop which is running Vista Home Basic service pack 2.Ī few months ago I was getting help in the Am I Infected forum, and after the laptop was pronounced clean, as I was performing the instructions to reset system restore, the laptop got to the point where every time I turn it on, it will only run Startup Repair, and once finished it states:
